TOKYO, JAPAN – April 22, 2025 – Terumo Corporation (TSE: 4543) today announced the establishment of the “Terumo Group Statement on Nature,” a group-wide guideline for actions on the conservation and restoration of natural environments.

Terumo operates by utilizing natural resources, including water, while impacting the natural environment, such as biodiversity and ecosystems, through its business activities. The company believes reducing its environmental impact and promoting conservation and restoration of natural environments are parts of its corporate responsibility. Therefore, Terumo has positioned “Reducing the Environmental Impact” as one of its sustainability priorities and is actively working towards its realization.

The “Terumo Group Statement on Nature” specifies actions aimed at accelerating efforts for the conservation and restoration of natural environments. Based on this guideline, Terumo will assess its dependence on nature and the environmental impact within its business activities and value chain, as well as the associated risks and opportunities. In light of the assessment, Terumo will identify key environmental aspects and promote actions to address these challenges.

To promote resource usage and conservation activities that are considerate of nature, Terumo will implement the following initiatives:

  • Prevention of pollution through company-wide environmental management activities

  • Consideration of nature impacts when establishing or changing facilities at operation sites

  • Reduction of the negative environmental impacts across the value chain through the Human × Eco Development Guidelines*

  • Implementation of Nature Positive Initiatives, including nature conservation and restoration in partnership with local communities

  • Promotion of sustainable raw material usage that is considerate of environmental impacts

In addition, Terumo has revised the “Terumo Group EHS Policy” prior to the establishment of the statement. This revision reflects the company’s approach and direction towards global environmental issues, such as climate change, resource and material circularity, and conservation of nature.

Terumo has two factories in the city of Fujinomiya in Shizuoka, Japan. Both take in groundwater from springs at the foot of Mt. Fuji for use in the production of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and other products. Recognizing that its business depends on the use of natural resources, Terumo launched the Terumo Mt. Fuji Reforestation Project in fiscal 2003 with the aim of restoring the natural forests in this area. This project involves the reforestation of parts of Mt. Fuji’s forests where many trees have been destroyed by typhoons. Repopulating these areas with native tree species will help them become more resistant to future natural disasters and ensure that they can continue to serve as a source of groundwater.
